The 18-year-old Russian pianist Andrey Gavrilov won the V International Tchaikovsky Competition. Two weeks he later debuted at the Salzburger Festspiele, replacing Sviatoslav Richter.
His great career was disrupted in 1979 by KGB. In 1985, the pianist managed to escape from the Soviet Union. The New York Times proclaimed him to be the greatest piano virtuoso after his triumph in the Carnegie Hall. This book describes amazing events that happened in his life in 1973-1985.
